Will the Premier League Be Put on Hold During the World Cup?

As the elite football scene continues to heat up in front of this winter's World Cup in Qatar, the 2022/23 Premier League season has begun. Given that the 202/21 season began up and running a month late due to the lockdown, it had to be compressed in order to accommodate all of the scheduled matches.

Since the EPL had to be moved straight away to make way for the rescheduled European Championships in the summer, more matches took place every Wednesday. The Qatar World Cup is scheduled for the winter of 2022, meaning that the players will have limited time to relax before the upcoming season.

Will there be an EPL break for the World Cup 2022?

Domestic play for the 2021/22 season began on August 13 and ended on May 22. Despite the lack of a big football tournament this summer, this year's winter break was the 2nd to occur in February. There will be significant interruptions to the new Premier League season due to the World Cup, which is being held in Qatar at the conclusion of the year.

With an opening day of August 6, 2022, and a closing day of May 28, 2023, this schedule was set. After the weekend of November 12/13, this season's Premier League fixtures 2022 will have a break before returning for the fixates on Boxing Day.

Historically, the Premier League has not taken a break in the middle of the season, but that will change in 2022 when the World Cup is held in Qatar during the winter. Matchday 16 of the Premier League will take place on April 12 and 13, the final weekend when players are summoned back by their respective countries.

Before going to the Middle East for the competition, the players would have a week to train with their respective national teams. If they get to the World Cup final on December 18, they will only have eight days to rest before the league starts up again.

The 20 Premier League club executives met in London last summer to finalize the 2022–23 season's schedule. Only six weekends are scheduled to be devoid of Premier League action.
